Why Mountain Biking is Enjoyable to Me

Often times many people ask me why in the world I would want to Mountain Bike. My answer has often become, “What don’t you enjoy riding through the woods narrowly avoiding trees and continually avoiding rocks?” However, that is just the sarcastic reply that I give to everyone. So really why do I Mountain Bike? What is so great about Mountain Biking that I feel as though it is the exact thing I should always be doing? To simply answer: It’s Fun. Obviously not everyone agrees with me in the statement, but overall I would rather be out riding and hurt myself as opposed to getting Carpal Tunnel because of typing too much (yes I know the irony as I am writing a blog post). Overall though it is extremely exhilarating to be able to go through the woods on a bike. You get to see so much more of nature and honestly it is just fun to go ride with some friends. You don’t have to be a pro at it to enjoy it. Even now I enjoy stopping ever so often and just taking a quick picture. While I do tend to overpopulate my Instagram with various pictures of my bike it does force me to stop ever so often and just enjoy where I am. Suddenly I can slow down and just relax I don’t have to fret about everything else I have to do. Working as an IT Professional and studying Computer Science my life is computers and for an hour or two while I am riding the only electronic I have is my phone running Strava (because you should always track your rides so you can show off to your friends). So for me the very simple reason why I ride is simply because it is fun and I enjoy it. While I have many friends who try to take a trail as hast and hard as they can possibly stand (this is fun in many cases) for me I enjoy riding and taking it a little slower just to enjoy everything going on around me. I have raced in Collegiate events and while they were fun the only real reason I went and raced was because it allowed me to get out somewhere new and ride which was more fun than trying to win the entire race. Overall I just try to enjoy riding. I don’t invest thousands of dollars into everything and weight is not of the biggest concern to me. I just want to do something that does not involve sitting still in front of a computer and something where I am not having to troubleshoot massive amounts of issues.
